It's been a long time coming, but finally the all-round experimental pop shapeshifter Matthew Dear will be be performing under his own name for the first time since touring with the legendary Depeche Mode back in 2013.
He returns to the project with Modafinil Blues, an effortlessly slick cut that's packed with drifting synth lines and Dear's trademark vocals. Described by NPR as a "patient, pulsing, goth-pop jewel that pulls the best elements of new wave," it builds on the eccentric work he created on 2012's Beams.
He returns to the guise following a 2017 where the Ghostly International head honcho has contributed a deeply considered and personal mix to !K7 Records’ long established DJ-Kicks series, and released a number of tracks under his techno-tinged Audion alias.
This showcase is a rare chance to catch the evocative producer in a unique and intimate setting. It's essential.
